Rusak
multicaliber - 1x (non magnified) - Russia - commerical

The Rusak is a simple red dot that was produced in Russia by the Kazan Optical-Mechanical Plant (KOMZ) during the early 90s. Not much information can be found regarding it. It can be found in both a domestic Russian version (РУСАК) and in an export model (Rusak) which are identical in all but name. While it is possible production started in the late 80s, all known sights have Russian style commerical serial numbers with a production year prefix in the 1992 to 1994 range bracket. Examples of the sights with no serial number have been found. While the sight is similar in layout to the Kobra, another Russian commerical red dot, the author has no evidence of the Rusak being used by militaries. The sight is sometimes referenced to as the PRU 452 on the internet. It is unclear where this name originates from. The sight is powered by two AA batteries.

Export marked RUSAK sight. Note the KOMZ logo on the bottom of the sight along with the + and - battery polarity emblems. The black plastic disk is a lens cover that can be placed over the lens when not in use to protect the glass.

The sight is adjusted by loosening the screw on bottom right of the glass (bottom left in the photo) and then physically adjusting the glass before retightening the screw.

Russian РУСАК sights have the KOMZ logo marked on the rear cap.

The Rusak has an integrated mount inteded for use with a 11mm weaver style rail.

Russian domestic РУСАК manual. Serial number is for 1992 dated scope with a October 7, 1992 inspection date. Diagram 2 appears to be the action of a break action shotgun.

Sights were packaged inside black plastic jars. Left is a case from a 1992 РУСАК marked sight. Right is from a 1993 Rusak marked sight.

Reticle in all examples is an inverted chevron.

Back plate removed showing the battery and some of the internal wiring. If a battery ever gets stuck this can be used to easily push them out.

Serial Numbers

Known serial numbers below. Like many Russian commerical scopes the first two digits are the production year. Based on known serial numbers production started in 1991 and ended in 1993 or possibly 1994.
1991 serial numbers appear to all be 6 digits which changed to 7 digit the following year. Export marked sights appear to have started in 1993.
