Telescope Sighting No.74 Mk.I (Sight Unit, 7.62mm Rifle Mk I)
7.62x51 - 3x - United Kingdom - L1A1

Special thanks to Jonathan Ferguson of the Royal Armouries for assisting with information for this page.

Developed in the 1960s as part of the General Service Requirement for an in-service rifle fitted with a telescopic sight. The scopes were produced by R.J. Beck of London (RJ Beck), with the mount being designed and made by RASF Enfield. The scope appears to be mounted to its dust cover mount by means of rings, but the mounting system is more akin to the STANAG system using two screws to afix the scope to the mount.

Trials showed modified No.4(T) rifles in 7.62x51 to be superior and the scope was dropped. Total production appears to have been less than 100 scopes based on known serial numbers.

During the troubles in North Ireland they saw limited service prior to the introduction of the SUIT scope.
